About

Archie Stouffer Elementary School is a K-8 school in Minden, Ontario with a student population of almost 500. Minden is set in beautiful Haliburton County and is surrounded by incredible forests and hundreds of lakes.

The School was founded in 1944. It is named after one of the area’s best known educators – Archie Stouffer. Mr. Stouffer was born in 1895 in Stouffville, a town that was named after one of his ancestors. Setting his sights on a career in education, he obtained Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Pedagogy degrees and began teaching. In 1939 he moved to Minden to assume the position of school inspector for Haliburton County as well as parts of Peterborough, Victoria, Hastings and Muskoka. The school underwent substantial renovations in 1993 expanding the number of classrooms and creating the current footprint. Set on almost 100 acres of land the school offers students the opportunity to experience and play in the outdoors. Archie Stouffer Elementary School is also home to the Haliburton County Education Center.
