The Township of Minden Hills is introducing two new youth certification courses. Both courses are created by SOS 4 Kids with Minden being a program partner to offer the courses.
Babysitters course
Who: youth 11-15 years old
Date: Friday October 24
Location: Minden Hills Community Centre
Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The course will prepare new babysitters to be responsible and competent caregivers by covering:
- How to care for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and school-aged children
- Program solving and decision-making skills to handle emergencies and give first aid
- Strategies to create a safe and positive environment and prevent injuries
- Age-appropriate activities and games
- Communication and basic business skills

Home Alone Safety for Kids course
Who: youth 9-12 years old
Date: Friday November 21
Location: Minden Hills Community Centre
Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The course will empower youth to have the confidence and skills to care for themselves when home along by covering:
- Problem solving and decision making skills to handle emergencies
- Strategies to create a safe and positive environment and prevent injuries
- Online safety
- Basic first aid
- Fire safety and accident prevention
- Strangers and tricky people
- Healthy snacks and age appropriate activities and games
