Over the 2023-2024 school year, Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) had the opportunity to take part in the After School Skills Development Programs.
The programs took place in both the fall and spring, and offered social skills learning opportunities through clubs, each with a specific social skills focus and target age groups.
The fall program, which took place in November to December, was in partnership with LEARNstyle and targeted students in Grades 4 to 12. The virtual coding camp focused on building friendships through a shared interest in computers, coding, and robotics.
There were two spring programs, which both focused on learning the skills needed to play in a small social group format. One was for students in Kindergarten to Grade 2 and used Lego, where the other was for students in Grades 3 to 5 and used board games.
